Day 1 - International Departure to San Jose


Day 2

Welcome to Costa Rica. Begin your adventure in Poas Volcano National Park & La Paz Waterfall
Garden. The Poas Volcano is one of the world's largest geysers with an awesome crater, over 1.5 km.
wide! This tour begins with a beautiful drive through the lush coffee plantations and flower farms of the
area. In addition to the volcano, the Poas National Park is a 9,884-acre reserve with rich tropical
vegetation and animal life. The tour includes a hike through the surrounding forest that is teeming with
typical plant life and exotic birds. Located only one hour from San Jose and just north of Poas Volcano,
this attraction provides more than 70 acres of natural preserve, wildlife and forest to explore. The Casita
de la Paz is a reproduction of a typical rural house and shows how life was a hundred years ago. All the
attractions are surrounded by lush nature and luxuriant gardens where you will always find a nice place
where to relax or just enjoy the ambience.

Day 3

Spend your day visiting a local school working with the students. Later enjoy learning the art of
Latin dance!

Day 4

Chocolate ~ who can resist! Your tour begins by taking you across the popular suspension bridge
to a former cacao-tree plantation. During the walk, you will be exposed to the natural and cultural history
of the cacao tree and, upon reaching the plantation; your guide will reveal the secrets of transforming
cacao fruit into chocolate. You'll see the chocolate making process first-hand and even have the
opportunity to treat your taste buds to organic rainforest chocolate!

Day 5

Today travel from San José to Golfito with an overnight in Zancudo. Golfito, also known as Little
Gulf, is one of the deepest gulfs of its size in the world. Situated just north of the Panama border, is a
former banana port and is backed up against the steep thickly forested hills.

Day 6

Depart early for Panama City. Panama, a country so small yet filled with incredible rain forests,
wildlife and a rich cultural heritage. Here is where you will experience it's wide range of tropical
landscapes including pristine beaches, rain forests, cloud forests, over 900 species of birds, 1500
species of trees and over 7000 vascular plants. Located in the narrowest part of the American continent,
the Panama Canal, 1904 - 1914, is still one of the most amazing engineering marvels of the world.

Day 7

This morning start your day by exploring Gatun Lake and riding the Aerial Tram. Ride along the
scenic Gamboa Road and reach Gamboa Marina where you will cruise the Gatun Lake and where you
will cross partially the Panama Canal, visit small islands and see many types of wildlife such as
Spectacled Caiman, Green Iguana from the tree tops, terrestrial turtles, Capuchin Monkeys, Two-toed
Sloths and the Ringed Kingfisher and an incredible amount of water plants and other wildlife species.
Your ride will take you from the rainforest floor through the under story, and into the sun drenched canopy
where you will enjoy a bird's eye view.

Day 8

Today be prepared for a historical experience. Tour the ruins of Panama la Vieja, climb
up the Cathedral tower and visit the Panama La Vieja Museum and Casco Viejo, which dates
from the late 1600's. Your day continues with a tour of the Panama Canal area, including the
town of Balboa, formerly part of the Panama Canal Zone. You will stop at the folk art market at
the old YMCA building and then visit the Miraflores Locks at the Panama Canal where large ships
can be seen transiting the canal. Enjoy a presentation by the Panama Canal Authority on the
history of the Panama Canal and marvel at the workings of this feat of human engineering.

Day 9

Early in the morning you will be transferred to El Corotu on the shores of Madden Lake.
Here, you board a motorized piragua (dugout canoe) and travel up the Chagres River to the
Embera indigenous village of Embera Drua. The boat journey takes you through the rainforest of
the 320,000-acre Chagres National Park, which is the largest of the National Parks protecting the
Panama Canal Watershed. At the Embera village you will be greeted with dancing and music
and have the opportunity to learn about the Embera customs. A great way to end your amazing
travels in Panama.

Day 10

International Flight Home
